Harry Shearer is coming back to the Simpsons
Release the hounds…of joy! Harry Shearer will be coming back to the Simpsons cast after all. The long-time voice actor of popular characters like Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Seymour Skinner and almost a dozen or so other beloved Springfielders, was in a very public battle over his contract, but now it seems that everything has been set right.
As we reported back in May, Shearer announced that he would not be returning to “The Simpsons” on Twitter. At the time Shearer stated that the decision to leave the long-running series was purely based on stipulations in his contract.
Once news broke that Shearer wouldn’t be returning to the series, showrunner Al Jean and James L. Brooks stated that there were no plans to kill-off the characters that Shearer voiced, but instead, the team hinted that they would just find replacements for those roles.
As you can imagine life went on without Shearer, fox has already started production on Season 27 without Shearer on contract. Fellow cast mates Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria have already signed contracts to continue working on the series and have been present since the start of season 27.
In a statement to the press the network confirmed, “Following the announcement of THE SIMPSONS’ renewal for an unprecedented 27th and 28th seasons, FOX is proud to confirm that each and every member of the iconic series’ voice cast will be returning in the roles they’ve brought to life since the show’s beginnings as a series of animated shorts nearly 30 years ago.”
