Terminator Genisys and Magic Mike XXL come up short at the box-office
It was another surprising week at the box-office as “Jurassic World” from Universal Pictures took the top-spot with $30.9M. The popular dinosaur thriller has now earned a little more than $558M at the domestic box-office.
Chris Pratt and his dinosaur pals managed to rise above Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out’ for the second-week in a row. Disney’s latest animated feature has been doing extremely well across the country, despite only reaching second-place on the charts for the last two-weeks. At the end of the Holiday weekend “Inside Out” earned a an estimated $30.1M, the animated-comedy now sits with a running domestic-total of roughly $246.1M.
Of the new releases that hit theaters this week Paramount Pictures’ “Terminator Genisys” attracted the most holiday moviegoers. The film earned $28.7M in its debut weekend across an estimated 3,758 screens nationwide. “Terminator Genisys” took third-place overall this weekend and stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In fourth-place was another new-release, the highly anticipated “Magic Mike XXL” from Warner Bros. Pictures. Despite the film opening across an estimated 3,355 screens this weekend, the film only earned a little more than $12M at the domestic box-office. Among the many stars of the film are Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash and Amber Heard.
Rounding out the top-five this weekend was the CGI comedy “Ted 2,” also from Universal Pictures. The film added $11M to its running total, which now sits at $58.3M since the film was released earlier this month
