Fans all around the world are anxiously counting down the final weeks towards the “Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” premiere. The long-awaited film will be the final installment to the long-running Hunger Games franchise.
As far as popular films go, The Hunger Games have been dominating the global box-office since the first “The Hunger Games” premiered in 2012.
Earlier this week Lionsgate released a promotional still from the upcoming film (shown above) featuring two of the film’s prominent stars, fueling fans on social-media to become even more excited for the film’s release ahead of this year’s Comic Con.
Featured in the pic are Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks, two of the stars that brought Suzanne Collins YA novels to life on the big-screen, both have been featured in all three previous films.
Lionsgate also confirmed that the film will be making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this year, for the last time unfortunately. If you have tickets, the Hunger Games will be featured in the beloved Hall H this year, and the panels will begin on July 9. Not only will Lawrence, Josh Hutchinson and Liam Hemsworth be at the event, but a few clips from the film are expected to be shown to fans as well.
As for the film itself, the nation of Panem in a full scale war. Katniss confronts President Snow [Donald Sutherland] in the final showdown to end the tyrannical rule that has captured Panem for far too long.
Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale [Liam Hemsworth], Finnick [Sam Claflin] and Peeta [Josh Hutcherson] – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to liberate the citizens of Panem, and stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Peter Craig and Danny Strong and features an acclaimed cast including Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Academy Award-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone with Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland reprising their original roles from The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
