Rupert Wyatt to direct Channing Tatum in Gambit
One of the highly-anticipated ‘X-MEN’ spin-off film finally has a director and the studio has chosen Rupert Wyatt for the job. The film, currently called ‘Gambit,’ is still on track to release in fall 2016 but other than Channing Tatum in the titular role, little is known about the other characters that will be featured in the film.
Wyatt directed ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ for FOX, despite leaving the series twice over creative differences, the new ‘Gambit’ project is scheduled to release on October 7, 2016 under 20th Century Fox studios.
Tatum will be taking on the role of Gambit in the film or as he also known in the comics, Remy LeBeau. Fans know Gambit as the popular New Orleans-born smoothtalker that can overcharge small objects that he then uses as weapons. Usually Gambit carries around a deck of cards, his iconic weapon most of the time in the franchise, which he charges-up then throws about to attack anyone who wrongs him.
In 2009 popular actor Taylor Kitsch played the role of Gambit in the standalone film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
FOX has quite a few films in the works that will fit perfectly into the current superhero craze including; “X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Deadpool” with Ryan Reynolds and “Fantastic Four’ starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan.
Tatum is currently promoting his next major film-release called ‘Magic Mike XXL.’ That film was directed by Gregory Jacobs, working off a script written by Reid Carolin. Joining Tatum in the sequel will be Elizabeth Banks, Amber Heard, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Donald Glover and Jada Pinkett Smith. The film is set to hit theaters in just a few short weeks on July 1, 2015.
