Even with pet-cameras and nanny-cams running 24/7 our pets still manage to get themselves into trouble on a regular basis. A new animated film from Universal Pictures called “The Secret Life of Pets” is set to release in 2016 and the first trailer for the summer-flick has been released by the studio.

The story takes place in a Manhattan apartment building, where moviegoers will meet little Max. This little pet’s life as a favorite companion is turned upside down, when his owner brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. They have to put their quarrels aside after they find out that an adorable white bunny named Snowball is building an army of abandoned pets determined to take revenge on all happy-owned pets and their owners.

The film was co-directed by Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney, the writers on the project were Ken Daurio and Brian Lynch. This marks the fifth fully-animated feature-film collaboration, Illumination Entertainment is also the same team that brought the adorable yellow Minions to life.

Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film. Lending their voice to the cast are Louis C.K, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell and Kevin Hart. “The Secret Life of Pets” is scheduled to release on July 8, 2016.
