Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence team up for Passengers movie
Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars will be joining forces next year in a new film called ‘Passengers’. The new sci-fi thriller (with a touch of romance) is expected to start filming in early fall, but a few details on the film have leaked out ahead of the project’s official reveal.
Expected to join Pratt and Lawrence on-screen for ‘Passengers” are Reese Witherspoon, Keanu Reeves and Rachel McAdams. One of the side-notes on the project that has caused a few headlines in the media this past week are the two main-star’s salaries.
With Pratt’s ‘Jurassic World’ stomping through box-offices across the globe, the star is expected to make $12 million for ‘Passengers.’ That is a slight bump of $2 million dollars from Pratt’s early work. The surprising claim is that ‘Hunger Games’ star Jennifer Lawrence is expected to earn $20 million on the project, with a 30% share in profits if the film becomes profitable according to THR.
Normally an actor’s salary (although a gigantic sum) isn’t cause for a headline, but the fact that a younger, female co-star is making almost double the male’s lead has caused a bit of cheer from those fighting to equalize the pay-scale in Hollywood. Lawrence is one of the highest paid young-actors in Hollywood, with YA blockbusters like ‘Hunger Games,’ ‘X-Men’ and her Academy Award winning performances in-between raising her asking price each year.
The film’s story takes place aboard a spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a colony planet. Things get dangerous when a malfunction in one of the ship’s sleep chambers causes a passenger to awake 90 years before anyone else. With the idea that the passenger will have to live alone in isolation for the rest of their life, the passenger decides to wake up a second person on the ship.
The film will be directed by Morten Tyldum, working off a screenplay by Jon Spaihts. More information on the film, a release date and further casting announcements are expected to be released by the studio over the next few months as the project starts production.
