Earlier today Paramount Pictures set a release date for the highly-anticipated sequel to “World War Z,” a follow-up to the 2013 zombie-film starring Brad Pitt. While the release date may be a little over two-years away, it already another blockbuster to compete with.

Pitt is expected to return to the franchise for the follow-up installment, Steven Knight is expected to write the script for the second film, which has yet to be officially titled.

The original film was based on the popular Max Brooks’ novel, Paramount has not released any information on the plot of the sequel at this time. Co-starring with Brad Pitt in the first film were Mireille Enos and Daniella Kertesz, “World War Z” was directed by Marc Forster.

The film was incredible success for Paramount Pictures when it was released back in 2013, the film earned over $540 million globally.

The sequel to “World War Z” will have some tough competition when it opens on June 9, 2017, FOX has also set the rebooted “Fantastic Four 2″ film to release on the same day. More information on casting and a production schedule will be released at a later date.
