Maika Monroe will be taking her growing fan-base from horror-thriller, to epic sci-fi next year. Monroe made quite a name for herself earlier this year when the hit horror-flick ‘It Follows’ released in theaters this past March, now the young-star will be taking a role in the highly-anticipated sequel ‘Independance Day 2’.

‘It Follows’ was a big-hit with fans, following a girl that is soon haunted by a supernatural force after she was involved in a sexual encounter. David Robert Mitchell wrote and directed the film, which starred Monroe, Keir Gilchrist and Olivia Luccardi.

Roland Emmerich made the casting official earlier today, announcing Monroe as an official addition to the Independence Day 2 cast. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch are set to return to the Independance Day franchise, while Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Travis Tope and Joey King are among the newcomers to the franchise.

Emmerich stopped short of announcing Monroe’s character, as the story of the film is being kept under wraps. MAy believe that Monroe will play the older-version of president Thomas J. Whitmore’s daughter from the first film, which was played by a young Mae Whitman at the time.

Carter Blanchard, James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright are putting the script together for the studio, the film is set to start production later this year. Monroe has quite a few films in the works as well, including “The Tribes of Palos Verdes” with Jennifer Garner and The 5th Wave with Chloë Grace Moretz. Monroe will also star in “Bokeh” with Matt O’Leary and Arnar Jónsson, as well as “Burned,” a short with Meredith Monroe and Beau Knapp.

Independance Day is set to premiere in theaters on June 24, 2016.
