Ewan McGregor to play Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast
As if the cast for Disney’s upcoming live-action film adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ couldn’t get any better, the studio has just signed Ewan McGregor to voice the role of Lumiere.
Confirmation that McGregor will be joining the already amazing lineup of actors came earlier today, a rundown of who has been cast in the film to-date can be found below. As you may be able to tell from his name, Lumiere was the candelabra in the story after the witch cursed the castle, and quite a smooth-talking one at that.
As a recap, Emma Watson has joined the picture as its star Belle, Dan Stevens was cast as the Beast in the project. Joining them on screen are Luke Evans as Gaston and Ian McKellan as Cogsworth. Also cast in the film are Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Josh Gad as Gaston’s sidekick Le Fou and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father Maurice.
Fans of McGregor might remember that his previous singing roles (Moulin Rouge!) back in 2001 and (Down with Love) went over rather well with critics and fans alike.
As for behind the camera, Beauty and the Beast will be directed by Bill Condon, who also directed ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’. The film will be produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman and is scheduled to release in March 2017. A trailer for the highly anticipated film is expected out later this year, as filming on the project has only just begun. More castings and other details for the film will be released over the next few weeks.
