Love & Mercy trailer: John Cusack, Elizabeth Banks star in Beach Boys bio-drama
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions released the first official trailer for ‘LOVE & MERCY,’ an upcoming film starring John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti. You can watch the first trailer for the film thanks to the clip below, released by the studio earlier today.
The film was directed by Bill Pohlad, and was written by Oren Moverman and Michael Alan Lerner. Although Pohlad is usually a producer, having put together such films as ’12 Years a Slave’ in 2013, ‘Into the Wild’ back in 2007 and ‘Brokeback Mountain’ in 2005, he will be directing this new bio-drama. When asked earlier this year on why he took-on the film, Pohlad stated, “I had been looking at projects to direct and we had been developing a couple of other things at River Road. This was something that came across my desk, and it was something that intrigued me.” Pohlad added, “There’s no question I’m a big music fan, but I didn’t grow up as a Beach Boys fan to be honest. But more recently I had become more appreciative of Brian’s music. And even more so than the music, it was his struggle, what he’s been through and exploring his experience that attracted me to it.”
The film centers around the life and music of Brian Wilson, the popular singer, songwriter and leader of The Beach Boys. The film is set against the era defining catalog of Wilson’s music, “the film intimately examines the personal voyage and ultimate salvation of the icon whose success came at extraordinary personal cost,” according to the studio’s recent descriptions.
Cusack has several projects in the works for 2015 and 2016, including an Untitled Wall Street Project that will release on television. That project will also star Maggie Grace and Charlie Cox (Daredevil). In 2015 Cusack will also star in ‘Cell,’ a horror-thriller co-starring Samuel L. Jackson and Isabelle Fuhrman, the film is based off the works of Stephen King with Tod Williams directing.
Elizabeth Banks will be finalizing her role as Effie Trinket in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ when the film releases later this year. Banks is also directing and starring in ‘Pitch Perfect 2.’ Other notable projects to look for Banks in include ‘Magic Mike XXL’ and ‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.’
Paul Giamatti will join Rachel McAdams, Mackenzie Foy and James Franco in the animated film ‘The Little Prince,’ that film is set to release in 2015. Noah Buschel wrote and directed ‘Phenom,’ which will bring Ethan Hawke, Paul Giamatti and Johnny Simmons together when the film releases later this year as well.
LOVE & MERCY is set to open in theaters on June 5, 2015.
