Olivia Munn will be joining the popular X-MEN mutants next year, the actor/model/host has been confirmed as the latest addition to “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Munn will be taking the role of Betsy Braddock in the new installment, or as the character is also known, Psylocke.
It was Bryan Singer, the director of X-Men: Apocalypse, that made the official announcement this morning on Instagram. If you are unfamiliar with Psylocke, the character first appeared back in 1976. Psylocke is not a familiar choice for the ‘X-Men’ film-franchise, but should be a welcomed addition to the cast by longtime fans.
Mei Melançon played the role of Psylocke back in 2006 for the film ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ but was not featured in a large role. It now seems that Munn will be taking up the character moving forward. Psylocke has several powers, all of which involve mental-powers like telepathy and telekinesis.
Before today’s announcement Lana Condor was the last addition to the series, Condor will be taking on the role of Jubilee in the upcoming film. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Rose Byrne are all set to star in the film as well, returning to their familiar roles. Joining the cast this time around with Munn and Condor are Oscar Isaac and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Not appearing in the film are Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. The two famous best-friends play the roles of ‘present day’ Magneto and Professor X respectively, but since the film will take place in the past, they will not be returning for ‘X-Men Apocalypse’.
It was also confirmed that, although Jennifer Lawrence will be returning as Mystique for ‘Apocalypse,’ it will be her final film for the franchise. Bryan Singer will be directing the film, working from a script written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.
Fans still have over a year to wait to for the film’s release, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is set to premiere on May 27, 2016.
