The second film in the new ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ franchise will be bringing back an old-favorite; the hockey-mask wearing, wisecracker known as Casey Jones. Starring in the new role will be Stephen Amell. Fans may know Amell best from his current role as Oliver Queen in the popular CW series ‘Arrow,’ he is expected to stop just as much crime as Casey Jones when TMNT2 hit theaters.
In the past, Casey Jones has been written as a vigilante crime-fighter, often a native New Yorker, that teams-up with the Turtles from time to time. Jones is often times used as a love-interest for April O’Neil, just don’t tell Donatello or the rest of O’Neil’s’ fanclub. Elias Koteas played the role of Casey Jones in the 1990 TMNT film.
Amell will be joining a very popular film franchise, The first installment to rebooted Turtles franchise earned over $190 million across the country when it was released. Paramount has set a 2016 release window for the second film. Returning to the series will be Megan Fox, she will be reprising her role as sassy-reporter April O’Neil in the sequel. Paramount Pictures will also be bringing back Will Arnett for the second installment. No details have been released on the story for TMNT2, more information on casting and other additions to the film are expected to be announced over the next few months.
Directing the second film will be David Green, Michael Bay will once again be producing the film with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are expected to write the script for the project.
Amell is also set to be featured in an upcoming comedy called ‘Whatever Makes You Happy,’ starring Amell, Susan Sarandon and Allison Janney. That film will be directed by Cindy Chupack, based off of the William Sutcliffe novel.
