Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill, Ciara Renee added to Flash-Arrow series
Fans of ‘Doctor Who’ from the BBC know Arthur Darvill as the devoted husband and sentinel of Amy Pond, but the popular actor is taking on a new role for the CW in a new ‘Arrow-Flash’ spinoff series. Once a bumbling companion on Doctor Who, Darvill will be taking on the role of DC comic book character Rip Hunter. It was also confirmed this week that Ciara Renee has been cast on the CW series as Hawkgirl.
The network has yet to officially release the name of the new superhero team-up show, but the cast is coming along quite nicely. If you are unfamiliar with Rip Hunter, he too is a time traveler, he is roguish and charming and often times hilarious.
As we mentioned earlier, Ciara Renee is joining the CW series as Kendra Saunders / Hawgirl. The iconic character is a young-woman that has lived through several reincarnations over her extensive lifetime. Despite living through this process, Hawkgirl herself is only learning about these prior lives. In danger, Saunders suddenly becomes Hawkgirl, her wings appear as does the ancient persona that comes with them.
Wentworth Miller was previously confirmed as Captain Cold for the new series and Brandon Routh is playing the role of Atom. Other castings include Victor Garber as Firestorm and Caity Lotz will take on the role of Canary. Dominic Purcell has also been confirmed as Heat Wave.
There are still three unannounced DC Comics characters that will be added, but they have not made their debut on ‘The Flash’ or ‘Arrow,’ so they remain a secret. The series will feature multiple characters from “Arrow” and “The Flash” in recurring spots but more information will be announced at a later date. Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim were the creators of ‘Arrow’ on the CW, and they are working with Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions to develop the show.
