The original author of the popular millennium series past-away at the age of 50 in 2004, leaving behind an extremely popular series with global audience. Now the publisher is ready to continue the series that made Stieg Larsson famous, only this time with a new author. Before his death, Stieg Larsson wrote three-books following the journey of lead-protagonist Lisbeth Salander, now a fourth book is ready to hit store-shelves later this year.
Fans of Larsson probably know him best from his first novel in the series ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’ or from the other two books in the series titled ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’ and ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.’ A deal between Larsson’s publishers and the official estate has allowed a new author, Swedish writer David Lagercrantz, to continue the series and produce a fourth installment for fans.
The new book will be called ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’ and it’s scheduled to be released on September 1, 2015. Knopf is the American publisher handling the new book, and the company released the official cover for ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’ earlier today; shown above.
Although the book will have a new author, many critics believe the new story will still follow the same stylings as the first three novels. Both Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist will appear in the new novel, and Lagercrantz has stated that Silicon Valley will be the location for the new book. Lagercrantz has also confirmed that “a character from the National Security Agency” will have a “central role” in the new story.
The previous three books did remarkably well, selling 80 million copies worldwide and over 25 million in the U.S. since 2005. How long-time fans of Larsson’s work will react to the new author remains to be seen, but pre-orders for the book have been on the rise since they opened.
