Another X-Men mutant has been added to the cast of “X-Men: Apocalypse” according to director Bryan Singer. The next installment to the X-MEN franchise will be adding Lana Condor as the popular mutant Jubilee, the film “X-Men: Apocalypse” is scheduled to hit theaters next year.
As usual, Bryan Singer made the confirmation on his personal Twitter account and once more on his Instagram account. The director told his followers, “I’d officially like to welcome our newest mutant #JubilationLee, #Jubilee LanaCondor to #XMEN.” Jubilee is one of the more recent additions to the comic-book franchise, first appearing the “Uncanny X-Men” back in 1989.
One of the more boisterous mutants, Jubilee is a young teenage-girl that has the power of shooting a very strong plasma-like explosive from her hands. The character is usually a little younger than standard X-MEN group of Storm, Cyclops, Gambit and the rest, and of course she is a lot younger than Wolverine.
The film is being directed by Bryan Singer, and the script was written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty. We reported earlier this month that Jennifer Lawrence stated that this would be her final appearance as Mystique in the long-running film franchise and we are excited to see Jubilee join the cast. Joining Lana Condor on-screen in “X-Men: Apocalypse” are former X-MEN stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Rose Byrne. Also starring in the film are Oscar Isaac and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Since the film takes place in the past, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are not expected to appear in the new film but have not gone on record saying they are stepping away from the franchise. We do hope that they return soon.
Fans that are excited to see the film only have a few more weeks left to wait. The next X-MEN installment will release on May 27, 2016.
