There will be a big change in leadership within the Marvel Universe over the next few years, and we don’t mean between Iron Man and Captain America. The directing team that brought us ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ Anthony and Joe Russo, will both return to the Marvel Universe to direct the next installment in the franchise. The popular directing-duo will also direct ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ but they aren’t stopping there. Marvel has quite a few large projects releasing over the next few years, and the Russos are getting the lion’s share of the market.
The Russos will also be directing two other major films for Marvel, ‘Avengers: Infinity War pt. 1′ and Avengers Infinity War pt. 2,’ both are set to release over the next few years. Joss Whedon directed the first two Avengers films for Marvel, both dominating the box-office at their debut. The first Avengers film was released back in 2012, while the highly anticipated sequel, called ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ is scheduled to open on May 1, 2015.
As of right now, Marvel has not confirmed the writing team that will be working on any of the upcoming projects. It should be mentioned that the Russos worked with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier.’ The film was another terrific success for Marvel, so returning the previous writing team and the previous director wouldn’t be a far-fetched idea. The two Russos are expected to begin work on ‘Avengers: Infinity War pt. 1’ sometime in April 2015. Marvel confirmed earlier this year that ‘Captain America: Civil War’ will release on May 6, 2016.
As for ‘Avengers: Infinity War pt. 1’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War pt. 2,’ those two films are scheduled to release on May 4, 2018, and May 3, 2019, respectively. Fans will mostly likely wish that Joss Whedon was staying with the Avengers franchise, but considering how well Captain America has done in theaters, they will probably get over it rather quickly.
