Unfriended trailer shows the supernatural side of cyberbullying
Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming thriller ‘Unfriended,’ the film is set to hit theaters later next month. The project stars Shelley Hennig, Moses Jacob Storm, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz, Jacob Wysocki, Courtney Halverson and Heather Sossaman. You can checkout the official trailer below.
According to Universal Pictures, Unfriended unfolds over a teenager’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure who seeks vengeance for a shaming video that led a vicious bully to kill herself a year earlier. After Universal executives saw a test screening of Unfriended terrify a test audience, the studio acquired the thriller that was developed and conceived by filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov. (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).
The film itself was directed by Levan Gabriadze working off a script by Nelson Greaves. Timur Bekmambetov and Nelson Greaves produced the film, with Jason Blum as the executive producer.
With cyber-bullying being a hot-topic in the media it was only a matter of time before mainstream thriller production teams used it as a central plot in their films. ‘Unfriended’ may not be the first film to use the plot-device to scare audiences, but with Jason Blum as executive producer on the film, odds are it will do rather well when it hits theaters in early spring.
The film is scheduled to release on April 17, 2015.
