One of the most popular films to visit SXSW this year was ‘EX Machina’ from Director Alex Garland. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander and a new trailer offers a terrific look at the story taking place in the film.

Fans of Alex Garland might know him best as the writer of ’28 Days Later’ and ‘Sunshine’. This will be Garland’s directorial debut and the film already has an enormous following of sci-fi enthusiasts from the festival circuit. A thriller through and through, the film follows Caleb Smith (played by Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, who wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (played by Oscar Isaac).

Not soon after his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (played by Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive––than the two men could have imagined.

At the center of the film is Alicia Vikander, who recently played the role of Alice in ‘Seventh Son’. Vikander already has a wealth of films and appearances behind her, but she has several interesting projects to follow-up her role of the dangerous A.I. in ‘Ex Machina’. One of the larger productions to release over the next year to feature the actor is Warner Bros. Pictures’ film-adaptation of ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’. Vikander plays the role of Gaby Teller in the film. She will also appear in ‘The Danish Girl’ as Gerda Wegener, that film co-stars Eddie Redmayne and Amber Heard. Vikander is also set to star with Rachel Weisz and Michael Fassbender in the film ‘The Light Between Oceans’.
