E!’s Fashion Police is falling apart pretty quickly following the backlash from Giuliana Rancic’s remarks about actress Zendaya last month. Just a few days after long-time host Kelly Osbourne called it quits on the once-popular show, Kathy Griffin has now quit the program as well.
Griffin was the first addition made to the show, following the death of Joan Rivers last year. Kathy Griffin made the announcement to her followers on Twitter late Thursday evening. Griffin wrote, “After 7 episodes of ‘Fashion Police,’ I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it’s time to move on.”
She later added, “I wish E! and the E! team only the best, I hope to continue to make you all laugh performing live or on television where I can be smart, irreverent, unrepentant and unafraid in an observational way that is candid, honest and justified.”
E! did not immediately confirm the separation, but it does appear that Kathy Griffin has left the series. Kelly Osbourne quickly departed after the comments Giuliana Rancic made about her friend Zendaya. It was just moments after Rancic remarks that Osbourne told her Twitter followers that she would be demanding an apology to stay on the show. That being said, even after the apology was made by Rancic, Osbourne still left the series.
Following the backlash, Griffin told the Chicago Sun Times that she wouldn’t have made the comments about Zendaya saying, “I wouldn’t have said the joke in the first place. Some dude wrote it for her.” She then added that she would have told Rancic, “Don’t have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on ‘Fashion Police’.” She then added, “You have enough great insider gossip from actually being on the red carpet. That’s what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself.”
E! will most likely confirm the departure this week, and ultimately decide if the show (now missing two hosts) will continue.
