MR HOLMES is a unique addition to the standard ‘Sherlock Holmes’ film, offering a new twist for fans of the popular detective. The film is set in 1947, an the story follows an aging Sherlock Holmes after returning from Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger.
Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – “before it’s too late.”
With his role has Gandalf finally wrapped up from the world-famous ‘Hobbit’ films, McKellen has quite a few projects in the works, all set to release over the next two-years. One of the more interesting projects outside of ‘Mr. Holmes’ is ‘The Dresser,’ a TV Movie that he is currently filming with Anthony Hopkins and Emily Watson.
