Ian McKellen stars as “Mr. Holmes” with a new teaser-trailer
Miramax Films and Roadside Attractions released a new teaser-trailer for ‘Mr. Holmes,’ a new story involving one of the most famous detectives in literature. The film was directed by Bill Condon and stars Ian McKellen, Laura Linney, and Milo Parker. Although the film involves the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, the story offers a unique twist on the standard murder-mystery cases that you may expect to find in a standard Sherlock Holmes film.
Set in the year 1947, the story of “Mr. Holmes” follows an aging Sherlock Holmes as he returns from a visit to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger.
Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it’s too late. Mitch Cullin wrote the story, which is based on the original works written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Having finished his long-standing role as Gandalf in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films, Sir Ian McKellen has quite a few projects floating about, either in pre-production or still in their early stages. Among those projects is the TV movie “The Dresser,” where McKellen is set to star opposite Anthony Hopkins. Laura Linney is playing the role of Mrs. Munro in “Mr. Holmes” alongside McKellen, she is also set to star in “Genius” with Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman and Jude Law.
Mr. Holmes will release in U.K. this June. An official full-length trailer is expected to release over the next few months.
