Shailene Woodley strips down for Glamour
From tearjerker romance specialist to full-fledged action star, Shailene Woodley is one of the hottest young-actors at the box-office, and the 23 year-old rising star isn’t shy to express her sometimes offbeat ways. Woodley’s next major film, the second installment to the ‘Divergent’ franchise called ‘Insurgent,’ will release in a little less than a month, and Woodley posed for the cover of Glamour’s April edition to promote the film.
Woodley poses topless in denim for the magazine, other shots are of her playfully dancing in active-wear. I’ve found that it’s hard not to smile when reading about Shailene Woodley, the actor always manages to appear as down-to-Earth as possible when speaking in interviews, or while playing coy and posing for covers.
Nudity has never been a subject that the actor has shied away from, whether it be in Glamour’s new spread, or on-screen. Admittedly, sexual images on-screen and nudity in general is a bit more taboo here in America, something that Woodley has experienced first hand while traveling abroad. “Part of the reason I love Europe is that sexuality is no big deal there,” Shailene said in the interview. “You go to a topless beach and the dudes aren’t checking out your tits, because they’re just boobs.” Woodley spoke about how she felt many Americans looked at sex, staying that it was, “something that’s not talked about,” adding, “yet it’s in our faces more than anything else. In school, rather than teach you about sex, they tell you about abstinence, which doesn’t work.”
Woodley has a few sex-scenes under her belt, a common practice for anyone that has played a teen in as many films as she has. During those films Woodley has found that naked is naked, and that it doesn’t have to be anymore complicated than that. She’d rather bare it all than fake it it seems, especially when steaming things up with her partner for a film. “I’m totally comfortable with nudity,” Woodley told Glamour, speaking about stripping down entirely for certain scenes. “I’m not sure it empowers me as an actress or anything, but if I’m going to do a movie with sex scenes, then I’m going to be naked, because I don’t know about you, but I don’t have sex with bras and panties on.”
All of that calmness around nudity may have come in handy if the actor wasn’t doing ‘Divergent,’ Shailene Woodley was one of the few actors considered for the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey. In the end she had to give up on the role, since she was already signed-on to continue the ‘Divergent’ franchise. “I’d already signed on for Divergent” Woodley stated, adding, “I’d read the book and thought, ‘If somebody really can pull this off and make a movie out of it, they will be the biggest genius.’”
The ‘Divergent’ films have proven to be a wonderful investment for Woodley, who has used the blockbuster franchise to gain roles in smaller, more intimate films like “White Bird in a Blizzard,” or “The Fault in our Stars”. Things just seem to get better and better for actor, Woodley is also set to appear in Oliver Stone’s “Snowden” film alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scott Eastwood.
