Since the record-breaking premiere of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ there have been several rumors that leading-man Jamie Dornan would be exiting the franchise. Now Jamie Dornan’s people are putting those rumors to rest, ensuring fans that he will be returning as Christian Grey.
The actor’s rep has stated that Dornan “is looking forward to making the next film,” which will be the second installment to an expected three-part trilogy. It’s unclear what started the rumors that Dornan would be leaving the hit-franchise, since ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ did so well at the box-office this year. One website seems to be at the early stages of the rumor, blaming Dornan’s wife for the move.
In a statement made to People on Wednesday, Dornan’s rep said, “Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film.” The rep stopped short of addressing the third-film in the franchise, and also stated that Dornan himself would not be commenting on the issue in the near future.
One of the first online sources to start the rumor that Dornan might not be returning to the franchise, was the the Australian magazine NW. The magazine reported that Dornan’s wife, Amelia Warner, was too uncomfortable with the over-the-top sex scenes that he performs with 25-year-old costar Dakota Johnson. It’s a headline that you would most likely see at the supermarket, but was enough to start speculation that Dornan would be leaving.
There are three books that are expected to be turned into films, but Universal Pictures has not set a new film into motion at this time. Johnson is rumored to have signed on for any sequels that the studio puts out, but no confirmation on castings or a release date has been given by the studio.
Director Sam Taylor-Johnson only signed on for the first film and it is very unlikely that she will return to direct either of the two remaining installments. During filming of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ it was reported that Taylor-Johnson and Fifty Shades’ author E. L. James often disagreed over scenes in the film, James will have full control of future films and hopefully an easier time with a new director.
