Getting married is a stressful and soul-stretching ordeal, even before your father is publically suspended from his position as leading world-news anchor. Following the events of Brian Williams’ suspension from the NBC Nightly News, his daughter Allison has decided to postpone her upcoming wedding. Postpone, not cancel we should clarify.
Brian Williams was suspended for falsely reporting details of his coverage during the Iraq war, events that he himself admitted to doing. That caused NBC to suspended the veteran news anchor, and his name has been in the headlines quite frequently ever since the announcement. Allison was set to marry Ricky Van Veen later this year, but now that will be delayed until things calm down.
Speaking with Late Night host Seth Meyers at New York City’s 92nd Street Y, Williams talked about the difficult times the family has undergone following the fallout. She said that although the ordeal is “toughest on my dad, who bears the full burden of responsibility for it,” but said that “current events started happening, so that derailed it a little bit.”
Williams did defend her father’s integrity telling Seth, “One thing the experience has not done is shake my trust and belief in him as a man.” Williams added, “He’s a really good man. He’s an honest man. He’s a truthful man. He has so much integrity … and, yes, he’s a really good dad.”
As of right now Allison Williams hasn’t announced a new date for the wedding, but did say that the wedding is still very much a part of her future. “It has been this really beautiful through-line in our lives,” she said. “It’s just something we haven’t focused on, but – spoiler alert – we are excited!”
Allison Williams is still picking-up a growing fanbase on HBO’s hit series ‘Girls,’ she plays the role of Marnie Michaels on the popular show. As for her father, he is still scheduled to return to NBC after his suspension.
