Elysium director Neill Blomkamp to direct next Alien film
In space no one can hear you scream, hopefully in excitement, after learning that 20th Century Fox is moving forward with a new Alien installment. The project has been rumored for the past few months, but now a post on social-media indicates that Neill Blomkamp has been chosen by the studio to direct the next film in the horror-franchise.
As of right now the film is still an untitled project, and don’t worry fans, ‘Prometheus 2’ will still be an entirely separate project all-together. That film is still on the way via director Ridley Scott. The original “Prometheus” was released back in 2012 and starred Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green and Michael Fassbender. Ridley Scott also directed that film, working off a script from Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are set to return to the franchise, the film itself is set to release in March 2016.
Blomkamp has several high-profile films under his belt, including the popular movie “District 9″ and he is currently gearing up to premiere his new Sony film “Chappie”. That film stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley. Blomkamp’s latest film, “Elysium,” starred Matt Damon back in 2013. It was Blomkamp that spilled the beans earlier this evening on Instagram stating, “So I think this is officially my next film.” Blomkamp is also an accomplished writer, taking credits in “Chappie,” “Elysium,” and “District 9” just to name a few of his recent hits. There was no confirmation on whether or not he will write the script to the new Alien project.
Fans will most likely be happy to put ‘Alien Resurrection’ to bed and start a whole new project. It was one of the least popular ‘Alien’ films though it did star Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder and Dominique Pinon. That film released in 1997. More information on castings and other details will be released at a later date.
