Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment has signed on two big-names for the upcoming film-adaptation of Jon Ronson’s hit novel ‘The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry‘. Starring in the film will be Scarlett Johansson, while Jay Roach has been brought on to direct.
The film has another big-name attached as well, Kristin Gore (daughter of Al Gore) is set to write the film-adaptation for the studio, although a release window was not given at this time. The book itself has been quite a success since its release in 2011. The story revolves around the premise that one out of every hundred people is a psychopath. In the novel Ronson explores the treatment, diagnosis, physical behaviours and case-studies of psychopaths. There are harrowing moments detailed within the book of how these treatments were carried out, and how diagnoses were concluded in the past. More information on the novel can be found on the link above.
Producing the film are Brian Grazer, Jay Roach, Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey. Erica Huggins and Jennifer Perini are attached as executive producers.
Johansson has been on a role at the box-office for the better half of the decade, with successful films like ‘Under the Skin,’ ‘Lucy’ and of course her roles in Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Captain America’ franchises. Still awaiting release from the popular actor are ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ ‘Hail, Caesar!,’ ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Ahead of ‘The Psychopath Test’ Johansson’s latest confirmed role was ‘Ghost in the Shell,’ but information on that project has been kept underwraps.
As for the director Jay Roach, his recent work includes the ‘The Campaign,’ as well as the the pilot episode of HBO’s The Brink. His next film to hit theaters will be ‘Trumbo’ starring Bryan Cranston. More information on the film, a release window and other casting details will be announced by the studio as the film moves closer to production.
