Oscars 2015: Lady Gaga to make a special tribute performance
ABC announced another performer set to hit the stage at this year’s Academy Awards, the six-time Grammy-winning singer and songwriter, and Mother Monster herself; Lady Gaga.
The studio stopped short of detailing Gaga’s actual performance, only to state that she, “will make a special tribute performance at the 87th Oscars”, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today. The Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will air on Sunday, February 22, live on ABC.
“Lady Gaga is a once-in-a-lifetime artist whose musical evolution keeps growing. We are proud to have her perform on the Oscars for the very first time,” says Zadan and Meron.
Since breaking in 2008, Lady Gaga has sold over 27-million albums, 130-million singles, and over 4-million tickets globally to her award-winning live performances. Lady Gaga has won a total of 6 Grammy Awards – her most recent this week for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Cheek To Cheek, her 2014 collaboration with Tony Bennett, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The 87th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Oscars, produced by Zadan and Meron, also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
It’s unclear what the tribute may be, whether it is to recently deceased stars of the past (Robin Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman for example) or one particular star, ABC did not clarify the act at this time. With less than a month to go before the premiere of the 87th Oscars, only a few more spots remain on the performance list. Lady Gaga joins previously announced singers Anna Kendrick, Tegan and Sara, Lonely Island, Jack Black and Tim McGraw to name a few of the performances that will be hitting the stage that night.
