ABC is bringing back Battlebots
Prepare yourself for an onslaught of robotic-mayhem with a rebooted version of ‘Battlebots’ coming soon to your television. The new show was confirmed earlier today when ABC announced that the network has picked up “BattleBots,” as a reimagined take of the killer robot combat sport from Whalerock Industries. The series comes from the creators of the original “BattleBots” franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson.
In the upcoming show homemade robots will once-again battle against each other, in a single elimination tournament style format, until there is one champion. The six episode series is anticipated to air this summer. MGM Television, which has a development deal with Whalerock Industries, will be distributing the program internationally.
The new series promises to “wow viewers” with next generation robots all “bigger, faster and stronger than ever before.” The show will have a greater emphasis on the design and build elements of each robot, the bot builder backstories, their intense pursuit of the championship and the spectacle of the event. Separate weight classes will be eliminated so that robots of all sizes will battle against each other.
Honestly the only thing we think is missing would be having former Mythbuster Grant Imahara as color-commentary on the upcoming series.
State of the Art Onboard Technology and Cameras will provide audiences with enhanced viewing and combat analytics. There will be cash prizes for winners in the Championship Rounds. The show’s executive Producers are Lloyd Braun, Chris Cowan, Ed Roski and Greg Munson.
ABC stopped short of announcing the official premiere date of the series, robot builders will just have to wait for the series to premiere later this summer before all of the details are released. More information on casting and other details on the series will be announced leading up to the premiere of the show on ABC.
