Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins spy-thriller “Damascus Cover”
It was confirmed today that Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be taking the leading role in a new espionage, action-thriller called “Damascus Cover,” a film that will begin production in Morocco by the end of the week. Set to join JRM on screen are Olivia Thirlby, John Hurt, Igal Naor, Jurgen Prochnow and Navid Negahban.
Directing the film will be by Daniel Berk, based on a screenplay written by Samantha Newton and Daniel Berk. Hannah Leader for Big Book Media will be producing the project. The film will be an adaptation of the 1977 best-selling novel written by Howard Kaplan, who also wrote the follow-up ‘Bullets of Palestine,’ the first and second novel in the “Jerusalem Spy Series”. The original work takes place in 1989, following the career of an accomplished (but washed-up) spy on an undercover mission in Syria. During his mission, this spy has to extract a chemical weapons scientist, and his family, out of Damascus.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers was recently in the series ‘Dracula,’ starring in the titular role after his series ‘The Tudors’ (where he took the role as King Henry VIII) ended in 2010. Fans will also see him in the role of Trevor in ‘Stonewall,’ and in ‘Byrd and the Bees,’ both currently in post-production. More information on ‘Damascus Cover’ including a release window is expected to be released over the next few weeks.
