When HBO’s hit series ‘Game of Thrones’ hit IMAX in January, it came with the promise that theater goers would be the first to watch the new season five trailer. Of course a dozen or so people decided to record the trailer on their smartphones and upload the content to YouTube, where it leaked to a few million people.
The special IMAX screening allowed the final two episodes of Season 4, “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” to hit IMAX screens across the country. It was quite an accomplishment for the series a whole, since ‘Game of Thrones’ became the first television series to be showcased in IMAX theaters.
The special event was shown in an estimated 200 theaters across the nation, including gigantic viewing parties in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New York, San Antonio, Seattle, Toronto and Washington, D.C. Since then, HBO has released the trailer for everyone to enjoy, so you don’t have to watch a low-grade and cropped version of the trailer, and instead, watch it as it was meant to be seen.
HBO has set the premiere date for season five of ‘Game of Thrones,’ as well as a couple of other popular HBO series. ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Veep’ and the popular comedy ‘Silicon Valley’ are all set to premiere on April 12th. The series will return to the same 9 p.m. timeslot as last year. Fans had their fill of suspenseful moments and surprises when the show ended at season three. Last year we saw the mighty Stannis Baratheon appear at the Wall, the soon-to-be-executed Tyrion Lannister escaping from an epic murder, and Arya Stark was on her way to the city of Braavos.
Fan favorite Danerys Targaryen has all but stalled out at the moment. The show did a wonderful job of having her travel from city to city, and we got to see a bit of her dragons, but other than that things haven’t been too smashing for the lovely Mother.
