Paul Feig confirms the all-female cast of Ghostbusters

After a few news-sites jumped the gun and started the naming the final few picks of the new Ghostbusters film, director Paul Feig decided to put the speculation to rest and posted the four chosen. The director made the confirmation on Twitter, where he flashed a picture (shown above) of stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, the four new Ghostbusters.

With McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and the two stars of Saturday Night Live (Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon) now settled-in, we can only hope that more information on the script and timeframe of the film will be released over the coming weeks. Of the four cast-members, McCarthy and Wiig have both worked with Feig in the past. The two comedic-actors both were stars in the very well received comedy ‘Bridesmaids’. Feig was the director in that project as well.

While McKinnon has been on SNL for the last three years, Jones is relatively new. She recently starred in the Chris Rock film ‘Top Five,’ and was promoted to the rank of ‘featured-player’ on SNL just last season.

Having the original cast reprise their roles became to ‘hot to handle,’ even though Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson had talked about coming back for a third new film. It was Bill Murray that wasn’t as cooperative about the process, dragging out remake talks for years. Ramis passed away just last year and Feig came on to become the new director roughly a few weeks after. That is when the film turned away from reprising the original cast, and instead became the all-female cast that you are reading about now.

More information on the castings and plot-details will be released over the next few months.
