Jumping from one popular franchise to the next, Kaya Scodelario will be joining the cast of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ this according to the film’s producer. Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the news himself over the weekend on Twitter, the producer left a note for his followers stating, “Pleased to announce that we cast Kaya Scodelario for the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean. Talented young actor from Skins & The Maze Runner.”

This will be the fifth installment to the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but it’s unclear at this time how many members of the original cast will be returning. Johnny Depp is coming off the miserable launch of ‘Mortdecai’ in theaters, the film only broke $4 million-dollars during its opening weekend domestically. Also on the schedule for Depp over the next few years is the sequel ‘Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass,’ set to release in 2016. Depp will reprise his role as the Mad Hatter in that film.

Scodelario is also being featured in the follow-up Maze Runner film ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,’ which is set to release on September 18, 2015. Fans may remember her best from her popular role as Effy Stonem on ‘Skins’.

The next Pirates installment will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, with Johnny Depp and popular young-actor Brenton Thwaites already confirmed as well. Thwaites recently played the role of Jonas in ‘The Giver,’ he was also in Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action film ‘Maleficent’ as Prince Phillip.

Rumored castings for this film include Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem and Orlando Bloom, but the studio has yet to confirm these castings at this time. The film was given a release date of July 7, 2017.

The project will begin filming in just a few weeks, ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ principal photography is set to start in Australia as early as February 2015. More information on casting and returning stars is set to be announced over the next few months.
