The third installment to the popular horror-thriller-survivor franchise ‘The Purge’ now has a release date. Universal announced earlier this week that the still untitled “The Purge 3″ will release in theaters on July 1, 2016.

The series is doing quite well for the studio, the sequel was called ‘The Purge: Anarchy’ and it brought in over $100 million at the box-office worldwide. The July 2016 release window is very crowded however, with Warner Bros. setting “Tarzan” in the same week, and Disney is set to release “The BFG” roughly around the same time. The fourth of July weekend usually offers an exciting mix of cinema for vacationing families and travelers to choose from, and it looks like this year won’t be any different.

James DeMonaco will be returning to the franchise to write the script, and he is expected to direct the film as well but Universal has stopped short of confirming that at this time.
