One of the marvelous features of the Doctor Who series is that the two lead-characters can change at any time, but it’s a bitter-sweet feature at best.

Just as fans of Matt Smith and David Tennant had to say goodbye to their favorite Doctor, one of the most-popular companions will also be leaving soon, but not too soon. At the end of this year’s Christmas Day special the BBC confirmed that Coleman would be staying another year.

Jenna Coleman will be returning as Clara Oswald in the next season of Doctor Who, Coleman began her role as the companion back in 2012, she recently told the BBC, “I get a whole other [season] of stories with the Doctor and I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved.”

Coleman then added, “There is so much more to do. I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other. The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up.”
