Hobbit rules the box-office, as Night at the Museum 3 tops family-films
As expected, Warner Bros. final installation to the Hobbit franchise overran the box-office this weekend, bringing in $56.2 million domestically. In a distant second was the 20th Century Fox film ‘Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb,’ starring Ben Stiller and the late Robin Williams. The family comedy saw a $17.3 million-dollar weekend debut across the nation.
Also opening this weekend, and taking third-place overall, was the Sony Pictures film ‘Annie’. That film earned $16.3 domestically. In fourth-place was the previous 20th Century Fox release ‘Exodus: Gods And Kings,’ that film earned another $8 million this weekend, bringing the domestic total to just under $39 million to-date.
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1’ from Lionsgate rounds-out the top-five this week, the film added $7.75 million to its coffers, ending with $289 million domestically so far. Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar-buzzing film ‘Wild’ from Fox Searchlight earned another $4 million in theaters over the weekend, taking-in $7.2 million overall.
