Exodus tops weekend after Hunger Games domination
This week ‘Exodus: Gods And Kings’ from 20th Century Fox took the number-one spot across the nation with a $24.5 million opening weekend to beat out ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1’ from Lionsgate. ‘Exodus’ comes from director Ridley Scott, and stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton and Ben Kingsley.
Katniss and her rebellious crew had a terrific weekend themselves with $13.2 million, bringing the film’s domestic total to just over $277 million to-date. In third-place domestically was another 20th Century Fox film, ‘Penguins Of Madagascar.’ The latest animated comedy from the ”Madagascar’ franchise saw another $7.3 million dollars this weekend, raising the film’s running total to $58.8 million.
In fourth-place overall was another debut, Paramount’s ‘Top Five’ took-in $7.2 million in the film’s opening weekend across the nation. Rounding out the top-five was Disney’s popular ‘Big Hero 6,’ adding an additional $6.1 million for the studio and reaching a domestic total of $185 million.
