Hunger Games Mockingjay passes $250 million, The Pyramid starts soft
It was a slow-week for movie releases as families and friends filled theaters to watch the ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’ from Lionsgate. The film took in another $21.6 million across the country this weekend, raising the film’s domestic total to just under $258 million to date. Coming in at number two this weekend was the family-friendly animated comedy ‘Penguins Of Madagascar’. The 20th Century Fox film brought in a little over $11 million in theaters, raising that film’s running total to $49.5 million.
On the other side of the comedy spectrum is the adult-orientated sequel ‘Horrible Bosses 2’ from Warner Bros. Pictures. The film saw an $8.6 million dollar weekend after the holiday, now sitting at $36 million domestically. Just missing the top three was the Disney animated feature ‘Big Hero 6’, the animated film brought-in $8.1 million this weekend and has now earned $178 million here in the states.
Finishing out the top-five is the still popular space-epic ‘Interstellar’ from Paramount. The film took in another $8 million, raising the domestic total to just under $159 million. As we mentioned before the only major release this week was ‘The Pyramid’ also from 20th Century Fox. The film landed in ninth-place overall at the box-office with a $1.4 million weekend.
