Hunger Games Mockingjay scores a box-office win with over $120 million this weekend
This weekend saw the global launch of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay,’ opening unattested in theaters across the nation. The film opened in roughly 4,151 locations, earning an estimated $30,000 for each theater. Overall the film took-in $123 million in its opening weekend debut domestically, and earning the top-spot at the box-office. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, Jeffrey Wright, Natalie Dormer, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone and Willow Shields.
At number two this weekend was the animated Disney film ‘Big Hero 6’ adding another $20 million to its total, now at $136 million domestically. At number three was the Paramount sci-fi hit ‘Interstellar’ with $15.1 million at the box-office, that film’s running total now sits at $121 million.
Dropping to number four this weekend was the Universal Pictures’ film ‘Dumb And Dumber To,’ that film brought in another $13.8 million over the weekend, raising the film’s domestic total to $57.5 million. Rounding out the top-five for domestic releases was the 20th Century FOX film ‘Gone Girl,’ that film brought in another $2.8 million this weekend to finish at $157 million to date.
