Whether or not you love the idea of standalone apps for Facebook, the social-networking giant will continue to make them for now. The latest addition coming your way is Facebook Groups, and this one does make a little more sense.
Groups can cause a lot of notifications, and they can get pretty crowded if you join a few, so having a separate app to discover and respond to friends might be an easier way to maintain your relationships. Facebook is hoping that the app, “helps people share faster and more easily with all the groups in their life,” adding, “We built this app with the people who use Groups the most in mind.”
Those people include students, nonprofits, best friends or far-off contacts that would like to stick-together. You will be able to create new groups, track notifications and control which notifications you want to see. There is also a new Discover tab, where Facebook will suggest groups based on the Pages you’ve liked, or groups your friends are in and where you live.
If you hate the idea you will still be able to use Facebook Groups in the main Facebook app and on desktop.
