Jennifer Lawrence will join Robert De Niro in ‘Joy’ biopic
It was confirmed this week that Robert De Niro will be joining Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming biopic ‘Joy,’ based on Joy Mangano. The two will once again be working under director David O. Russell for a third film set to start production over the next few months.
The film focuses on the life of Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop. The film won’t release until 2015, and the studio is currently eyeing a Christmas release window. It was Robert De Niro himself that confirmed the news saying, “Yes I am going to do something with them. I am going to play a father.” De Niro made the comment in Rome at a press conference for the European launch of the HBO documentary “Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro, Sr.”
Rumors of the two joining-forces once again have been circling for the past few weeks, and although we have yet to confirm that Jennifer Lawrence will play Mangano, De Niro’s statements seem to put those rumors to rest. De Niro, Lawrence and director David O. Russell worked together on both “Silver Linings Playbook” and also “American Hustle.”
Producing the film are John Davis, John Fox and Ken Mok. The script was written by “Bridesmaids” co-writer Annie Mumolo but more casting decisions are expected over the next few weeks.
