This weekend two sci-fi blockbusters battled it out at the box-office, Disney’s latest animated feature ‘Big Hero 6,’ and Paramount’s epic space-sage ‘Interstellar’. Of the two, it was Disney’s animated tale that won the weekend, bringing in $56.2 million domestically.

The film features the voice talents of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit and Jamie Chung, bringing to life the story of a young boy named Hiro Hamada and his lovable (and inflatable) robot Baymax. The film took the top-spot this weekend and was co-directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, based off a screenplay written by Jordan Roberts.

At number two was Paramount’s ‘Interstellar,’ starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain as a group of explorers who jump through a newly discovered wormhole to begin mankind’s journey into interstellar voyage. The film earned just over $52 million this weekend, and comes from popular director Christopher Nolan. The script was written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan.

‘Gone Girl’ from 20th Century Fox saw a surprising leap to number three, earning $6.1 million across the nation. The film’s running domestic total now sits at $145.4 million. Universal’s horror-film ‘Ouija’ passed the $43 million mark this weekend with its gain of $6 million at the box-office to land at number four, while Bill Murray’s ‘St. Vincent’ from The Weinstein Company earned another $5.7 million this weekend to finish off the top-five.
