Warner Bros wants Jared Leto to play the Joker in Suicide Squad
Warner Bros. and Leto’s reps are keeping quiet about a new deal that could bring the popular actor into the DC Superhero world. Leto is on a short-list of actors that are being considered to take on the role of the Joker, one of the most iconic villains in the Batman story-line, in a new film called ‘Suicide Squad’.
Last year we watched as Jared Leto took home a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his work in Dallas Buyers Club, and he has quickly become one of the most sought-after character actors in his age-range.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with the Suicide Squad team, (also called Task Force X) the story was created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru. The group includes convicted villains offered a chance at redemption by taking-on dangerous missions for the side of good. The film just received a new release-date from the studio, now scheduled for August 5, 2016.
Leto was also in-talks to play the role of Doctor Strange for Marvel, a role that eventually went to Benedict Cumberbatch. Taking on the role of the Joker became a daunting task for actors after Heath Ledger won an Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in the 2008 film ‘The Dark Knight’.
