Ben Mendelsohn (“The Place Beyond the Pines”) will join Rooney Mara in a new film adaptation of David Harrower’s play “Blackbird.” News of the casting was confirmed earlier this morning, the film itself will be under famed theater director Benedict Andrews.

The film won’t begin production until later this summer in the United Kingdom, and is being co-produced by Jean Doumanian and Patrick Daly. The play became quite popular in the States when it first began its off-Broadway run back in 2007, at that time it was lead by Jeff Daniels.

This will be the first film that Benedict Andrews is directing. The story follows two former lovers, who meet again when the woman unexpectedly appears at the man’s office.

No release window was given at this time, other casting news and production notes will be released over the coming weeks.
