In a bittersweet moment for all adoring Cumberbatch fans, the popular Sherlock Holmes actor quietly announced his engagement to Sophie Hunter in a small classified announcement in The Times this morning.

The simple paragraph reads: “Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London.”

The quiet announcement is a perfect reflection of the oftentimes low-key actor, who has done a terrific job at keeping his relationship with Hunter out of the tabloids. Cumberbatch has been quite busy over the past few weeks, touring the globe with Keira Knightley to promote ‘The Imitation Game,’ and soon to be promoting the final Hobbit film himself. In that project the 38-year old voices Smaug the dragon.
