It was confirmed earlier this year that Channing Tatum would be taking over the role of Gambit in the Marvel films, but now it seems that he will also be getting his own spinoff, centered around Remy LeBeau himself. Deadline confirmed the spinoff-deal with Tatum earlier this week. “Robocop” writer Josh Zetumer is set to write the screenplay for the film, based on an original treatment from the popular Marvel Comics writer (and Gamit originator) Chris Claremont.

Gambit is one of the more colorful characters in the Marvel family, the card-throwing and often smooth-talking X-MEN addition was in a film already called ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’ In that film he was played by Taylor Kitsch.

In an interview with MTV while promoting ‘The Book of Life,’ Tatum had this to say about his then secretive role in the films, “I don’t want to give too much away because we don’t know that much right now other than who Gambit is,” Tatum said. “We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go for the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but not for the first one.”

More information on Gambit’s new film, and the other films that may feature the character, will be released as the projects move farther along in production.
