A new original series is headed to Netflix this year, based on the exploratory tales of Marco Polo. The company released the first teaser-trailer for the new series earlier this evening, showing a young, and still rather naive, explorer in the making.
The teaser and series shows the life of Marco Polo, not so much on the daring seas, but in the famed Kublai Khan court. Not only does the series seem to have quite a violent twist, sex and drug-use are also quite prevalent in the new trailer (not that they weren’t as equally prevalent during those times).
The series was created by John Fusco and the series will star Lorenzo Richelmy, Benedict Wong, Joan Chen and Chin Han. The series itself was produced through a partnership with The Weinstein Company and Netflix. The company describes the clip stating, “Intrigue. Deception. Bloodshed. These are just some of the obstacles awaiting legendary explorer Marco Polo as he navigates the inner court of 13th century ruler, Kublai Khan. From the back alleys of Venice to the perilous Silk Road, from the opulence of the Imperial City to the battlefields of China, Marco Polo is an epic action-adventure, where cultures clash, blood is spilled, and lies are told… ”
The season premiere is scheduled for December 12 on Netflix.
