Benedict Cumberbatch in final talks to play Doctor Strange for Marvel
After months of rumors it seems that Benedict Cumberbatch will be the actor chosen to play Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel film. The first actor in negotiations was Joaquin Phoenix, but talks quickly evaporated before anyone signed. Now Deadline is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch will take the role, much to everyone’s joy we are sure.
The popular actor is currently promoting ‘The Imitation Game,’ in that film he shared the screen with Keira Knightley. Cumberbatch is expected to pick up a Golden Globe, or an Oscar nomination for the role, in which he played Alan Turing. That film is set to release on November 21 after receiving terrific reviews as it toured the film festivals this year.
As for the Doctor Strange film itself, Scott Derrickson is set to direct the project. Writing the script will be Jon Spaihts, from the original written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. More information and other casting news will be released as the film moves along in production.
