Bono opens up about trademark sunglasses and why he has to wear them
For the past few decades Bono and his sunglasses have gone hand-in-hand, but they aren’t for show. The rocker talked about his medical condition that requires him to wear tinted glasses while out and about. In a recent interview Bono told Graham Norton that for the past 20 years he’s suffered from glaucoma, a rather common medical condition that causes a patient to be more sensitive to light.
Bono stated, “I have good treatments and I am going to be fine.” He then joked about all of the people in the past that have mocked him for always wearing sunglasses adding, “You’re not going to get this out of your head now and you will be saying, ‘Ah, poor old blind Bono,’ ” he said. Often found in elderly patients, Glaucoma is the result of pressure on the optic-nerve, which could result in permanent blindness if left untreated.
Bono hit the Graham Norton Show with guests Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall and Stephen Fry.
