Microsoft releases new Xbox One update for better Snap functions, DLNA support

Microsoft introduced a new system update to the company’s popular Xbox One console this week. The new features are expected to release this month adding better snap functions to frequently used features like access to your Friends, Messages, Game DVR, clock, and the battery indicator.

Double tapping the Xbox button on your controller will now allow you to enter a menu that allows you to “open a new app in snap mode, close the current snapped app, or switch focus between your game and your running snapped app.”

Other featured include the ability to access your friends list while in-game to send messages or see who is online. You can also open, read and respond to messages in Snap mode.

The achievements app was also updated, the new system will show the achievements you’ve unlocked with captions, and you will be able to compare your list of trophies with friends.

Microsoft also stated that the company will release updates that “will make your viewing experience better than ever on Xbox One, whether you want to watch TV or use SmartGlass as a universal remote.” Those updates include better Media Player DLNA and MKV support. Users will be able to playback MKV files stored on a USB device or a device on your home network that supports DLNA streaming.

There are dozens of new features included in the update, for a full list of the upcoming changes you can checkout Microsoft’s official list below, or watch the video above for the highlights.
