SEGA hopes to win back fans with Alien: Isolation launch today
The last installment to the ‘Alien’ franchise (Aliens: Colonial Marines) was not a success. The launch of the game ended with a lawsuit between developers Gearbox Software and the games’ publisher SEGA. The title also ended with a Metacritic rating in the 40s. Now the publisher is rebooting, bringing in some top-talent from the original film-franchise and hoping to put the Alien-name back in the green.
The game is a first-person survival horror title, “focusing on capturing the horror and tension evoked by Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic film,” according to the publisher. “Alien: Isolation is a game born of the passion the studio has for one of the most enduring of sci-fi series,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead Creative Assembly. “We set out to make the Alien game we had always wanted to play, one which put the player head-to-head with a ruthless and unstoppable creature with no means with which to kill it. It’s survival horror in its purest form and a truly terrifying experience.”
Also available from today is the Alien: Isolation Season Pass, offering up to a 25% discount on the six months of Survivor Mode add-on packs, the first of which is scheduled to release on October 28. Revealed earlier this year, Survivor Mode is an exciting game mode for Alien: Isolation which challenges players to participate in a one-to-one confrontation with the Alien, deep within the bowels of Sevastopol Station. With limited resources on each map and a hunter on the loose, players will need to take advantage of every item they find to help them complete a unique set of objectives which will ultimately lead to their escape.
Alien: Isolation is a first-person survival horror game set on board a decommissioned trading station in the fringes of space. Players find themselves in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger as an unpredictable, ruthless Xenomorph is stalking and killing deep in the shadows. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.
Alien: Isolation is available from today for Xbox One, PS4, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
